Bon Café

The Bon Café Regional Lot #3 is from the Celaque region, located in Western Honduras. It is a remote corner of the country, being one of the poorest and least developed. It contains a dramatic, rugged landscape with very high mountains and a few small valleys. The Celaque Mountain National Park has the highest peak in Honduras at 2849 m above sea level (9347 ft). Celaque means “box of waters” in the Lenca language - the Lenca being one of the various indigenous groups from Honduras. The region has great potential for high quality coffee however access is difficult. The region is bordered by El Salvador in the South, Copán and Ocotopeque to the West and Santa Barbara and Intibucá to the North and East. The coffee flavour profile from this region is apple, brown sugar and caramel.

Bon Café has a field team that provides field support to producers so that producers can improve their coffee quality production. All coffees are cupped as they are received by Bon Café and categorized by quality. Bon Café is constantly cupping with clients to understand their needs and sharing that information with producers.A quality report is generated for every lot delivered allowing for tracking and full traceability of the best coffees and a plan is made with producers on how to improve.

In addition to providing field support to producers to improve their coffee quality, producers receive a premium for coffees sold as specialty or certified and support on certification programs. Bon Café has supplied building materials and the communities provide labour for the construction of drying patios and improving wet mill facilities. Family and community health is important and Bon Cafe provides water filters to producer families in the program as well as constructing a 200 m2 school in Marcala benefiting 90 children, with the addition of another classroom in 2022 in collaboration with a client.
